Nevermind about the new entry style I was talking about, I'm a lazy slacker bum. I obviously can't pull things together enough to update here every day... or even every OTHER day... not even once a week...

However, I have something even better for you today: a rant. Yes, a lovely ittle [sic] rant about beauty. Read. Reflect. Eat lots of chocolate cake.

The Nature of Beauty

Why do people put themselves through so much torture to look "beautiful"? In spite of all the positive messages about beauty being on the inside, society is absolutely obsessed with obtaining perfection. Women (okay, possibly some men, too) sit for hours in beauty salons letting other people rip off unwanted body hair, douse their heads in chemicals to produce all sorts of weird effects, or grate off dead cells with scary Loofas of Doom (TM). They starve themselves with the Low-Carb Diet, the Two-Day Wonder Diet, the Bread-and-Water Diet, the Air Molecule Diet (okay, I made those last two up...) They work off sweat and blood and tears in attempts to achieve the "perfect" body shape when their very genetic makeup is against them. Why?

Optimists will say its a way of trying to achieve a personal best; that it boosts self-confidence because you feel better when you look your best. Pessimists will say its a way of trying to fit in with the rest of the world (which, by the way, is growing increasinly fatter and sloppier) and it's just lemming behaviour.

To me, beauty begins when you accept yourself. If you're fat and lazy, and completely okay with that, then who has a right to tell you otherwise? The problem occurs when you're NOT okay with yourself, whether your fat or skinny or tall or short. You don't need to be physically beautiful to be a beautiful person, but if you hate every fiber of your being, you're just not going to get anywhere.

I say kudos to anyone who can look at themselves and see something they like.

Quote of the Moment: "This life has been a test. If it had been a real life, you would have been given instructions on where to go and what to do."
Song of the Moment: "All I Need is a Miracle" by Mike and the Mechanics. Cool song. I could use a miracle... but then again, so could everyone else...
